sarahcampbellParticipantWe have been living in ‘Holland’ for the last nine years with our middle son who is autistic and has learning difficulties. We can relate to this as he is ‘different’ to other children and it is hard to find the right guidebooks and things don’t always make sense. My understanding and empathy for others has certainly grown. I have learnt lots through the process and we are still learning the language.

sarahcampbellParticipantI found this really interesting. The offer of maps, tours and taking photos in a way of finding out what children think is definitely something that I will be taking back to my setting to share these ideas.
We are really good at being there for the children and picking out interactions with the children. I feel this is one of the strengths. We listen to the children well and are flexible with what we do and what they want to do. They are able to be inside or outside at any point.
I like how the mosaic approach focuses on children’s everyday experiences.
This will really help to get to know the children more in depth. I am looking forward to the children using cameras as a way to share more of what their interests are and what they like to do.sarahcampbellParticipantReflective log

sarahcampbellParticipantYes I agree with 1:1 time in a quiet space I have used a tap tap box so sing a little song and tap a box then look inside and choose an object ( a fiddle toy ) then put it back and let adult have a turn and repeat. Do lotto matching games too. Animals down a tube is another good one. Lots of praise when child is doing something good. Sit with child within the setting to help engage them at an activity itโs called intensive interactions, this will help to develop interaction skills such as eye contact, facial expressions, copying sounds and sharing attention. It really helps with behavior issues.
Also carrying around pictures of preschool routine so you can talk about what you will he doing next and they can see visually.sarahcampbellParticipantAttached is my peer observation

Sarah xsarahcampbellParticipantThe day with Gill I found so interesting and it has made me look out for maths provision more in my setting and given me more of an idea to help in observations of children in maths.
An activity I’m going to do with the children this week is a sheep comparing game. They will practice counting out the total and compare sets. The children will throw a dice and say what number they can see. They will count the corresponding black sheep onto the ‘field’. They will throw again and say the number and count the white sheep. I will ask they how many sheep they have all together and see if they can find the numeral to match the number of sheep they have. I will ask if they have more black or more white ( or the same ) and to extend I will see if they can work out how to make the number the same.
sarahcampbellParticipantThank you ๐
sarahcampbellParticipantI am going to look at maths and using this in music. Possibly looking at EAL children with how songs can increase vocabulary.
