Participantoooh yes you definitely are and actually the lady I am thinking of did some really wonderful work with helicopter stories – did you come to the EYT conference in early November – Maria mentioned it a little then?

ParticipantHI Nicky ,
one of my trainees last year completed a wonderful change project on supporting children with SLCN – I will get in touch with her and ask for permission to share with you

ParticipantHello
Yes I would say that the children were engaged in peer to peer SST – also indicates peer to peer scaffolding with the children repeating words. The trial and error and collaborative working is definitely and example of the children working together to solve a problem / extend their play narrative!
I would say with the babies it is mainly adult to baby SSAt using non verbal methods of communicating – think back to the slide on Laura during one of the CPLS days!

ParticipantSome help….
The Julie Fisher book is a great resource for supporting your reading around SST.
When analysisng the transcript try breaking it down to explore each of the following:
Active Listening
Positive relationships
Following the child’s interest
Open questions / pondering / thinking out loud
Providing a simple narrative / effective dialogue
Modelling creative thinkingGood luck people – you’ve got this!

ParticipantHi
Glad you found the overview useful – Love your ideas for supporting children’ interest in stories away form the school – reading should be about pleasure and adventure!

ParticipantHI Isabellor ,
It might be a bit overwhelming to do both inside and outside , however you could use theme theme of emotional literacy to improve both aspects of the environment if you are aiming at improving provision to support children’s well being.
yOu could also take a look at Elizabeth Jarmans Communication Friendly SpacesNicky

ParticipantThank you Lucy for the reflection on Vygotsky – you have clearly identified how this theory underpins effective practice.
Thank you Joley for the SSTEW – really interesting to do 2 of them and see what differences there are – I found it fascinating that staff are not so confident in singing and rhyming – I wonder how you could support your colleagues confidence in this aspect?

ParticipantThis looks really interesting Lauren particularly f you are interested in the ethical nature of completing research children children and young people!

ParticipantLove the flyer about scribbling – I wonder if / how you could use this as a piece of evidence for your portfolio ?!!!
NIckyb
ParticipantHI Lauren
I would observe a colleague too – the more peer observations and joint reflections you do the easier it will become to really get those deep cortically reflective skills!

ParticipantHi Linh
This is a really lovely lay out to peer observations – what did you see , what did your hear etc.
You state that the practitioner extended thinking through the use of open questions and modelling language. In what other ways did the practitioner extend thinking? For example, clarifications , affirmations ,modelling thinking , ” I wonder …” etc.
Yo also note that it would b useful to consolidate the children’s learning at the end of the activity – how might the practitioner go about this?
Would this be a target for development in her practice?NIckyb
ParticipantHi Holly
You don’t have to reference this task but great if you want to use the Harvard style if you do!
NickyNIckyb
ParticipantHi Anna Maria
this is a great peer observation with some useful ideas for further development especially in promoting children’s choice. This really give the children a ‘ voice’ – so important in early years!
NIckyb
ParticipantThank you all for the contributions – wonderful to see so many of you have used sensory exploration a a way of supporting and scaffolding very early childhood learning and development!
There is a lot of research available on sensory integration if anyone feels like doing a bit of googling!!!
