KathrynLlewelynParticipantI found this really interesting and will definitely be sharing it with the rest of the staff in my setting.
We listen well to the children in the setting but as reading this I related it to some staff not having patience sometimes and finishing what they think the child is going to say. I recently gave my staff some training on SST which relates with this and I think this will be a really useful article for the staff to read.
Being an in the moment setting the children are in full control of how the days go and the staff are great at extending the learning through their play by listening and observing. By having the setting fully child led it enables us to really get to know our children and their interests and you can see how confident every child is because they have that independence.
I would love to get the children to talk about what they think of the setting and what else they would like to have as I think that will be really interesting.KathrynLlewelynParticipantPeer observation on UW activity

KathrynLlewelynParticipantEnveloping – during role play, encouraging children to wrap babies in blankets or using bandages if the child enjoys playing doctors and wrapping themselves and others in the bandages. In the garden we have tractor tyres and car tyres, the children build them up as a tower and then climb into the tyres as their den.
Transporting – providing bags and dolls prams in the role play area in order for the children to transport objects around the room. In the garden the toy diggers are used for transporting loose parts in the mud kitchen.
KathrynLlewelynParticipantI plan to develop sustained shared thinking in my setting.
Most of the staff show high quality interactions but I have noticed some staff struggling when interacting with children and not using the correct language. They are interfering a lot instead of observing first.
I would like to try and develop their practice by filming them and then showing them and getting them to reflect on how effective they think it was and if they developed that child’s learning. I will also try to model how to interact with the children and show them that stepping back and observing will work better and show them that silence is okay. I could also show them clips on youtube on good interactions. 🙂

KathrynLlewelynParticipantI actually went on the in the moment planning training last year with Anna Ephgrave which I found amazing! I have the powerpoints from the training that I think would really help for this standard if anyone is unsure of ITMP.

KathrynLlewelynParticipant1.3 – we also have a British values tree or our family tree where we ask parents to print pictures of their families for all the children to visually see everyone’s different families and then in the middle we have our British values and use our golden rules book during circle times and when dealing with behaviour issues
