Here is my reflective log on the 2year check. I have no experience on this check as it was not introduced when I had my son and as I work with 4 and 5 year olds we do not have a need to have access to it.

EmmaWParticipantHi Holly
I did begin to look at that assignment but have since changed my mind! I found these bits but didn’t look into them in depth as I changed my mind, hopefully they might help though – fingers crossed 🙂 I apologise if they are of no use and completely the wrong thing!!

EmmaWParticipantI had put this under CPLD day 7 interim task but here it is again so the discussions are all on the same post. I have attached the Critical Thinking task on the other post, if anybody would like to add theirs too!
‘Listening to children’
I think my setting is good at listening to the children but there is always room for improvement.
Since starting this course, actively listening has become a big part of my daily routine. I talk to the children as soon as they come into the classroom in the morning and listen to them when they tell me about their morning so far, their evening before or the weekend – or whatever thought is in their head at that moment, it might be the unicorn they are having round for tea later, or superman that they saw on the way to school! Sometimes these conversations begin to involve the whole of the class and can inform planning and provision for later in the day.
When having circle time, I ensure that each child has a chance to talk. I ask questions based on what they are telling me and make notes afterwards so that I can remember for another time. This shows the children that I am interested in them as a person and have listened and taken account of what they say.
Our day is heavily timetabled and there is little scope for impulse and in the moment planning, however, when possible I do incorporate aspects from the childs thoughts, interests and ideas.
I think this helps the children to know that we are listening to them and that hopefully, if they had a problem that they needed to talk about they would be more inclined to approach me and tell me than if I had just dismissed what they were saying and had not actively listened to them.
EmmaWParticipantI’m not sure mine would respond very well to a hands up vote Arlene! I think that they would all vote multiple times!! Might be something to try when we get back to normal though.

EmmaWParticipantHi Rosie
I am stuck for 3.1 but 3.2 I have used lesson observations. Maybe annotated plans and/or photographs showing opportunities provided and critical thinking about what you might improve and why.
Hope that starts to help!
EmmaWParticipantThanks Holly 🙂 I’ll have a look.

EmmaWParticipantEmmaWParticipantThank you Arlene – I have placed an order for my things now, so just got to wait for it all to arrive. Fingers crossed it doesn’t take too long, given the current situation!
EmmaWParticipantThank you Nicky, it’s helpful to see what has been included previously. On the document it says that full copies of the projects can be found on the website – please can you point me in the right direction as I can’t find them?
I have decided on a reading project. I don’t feel that in my setting we read for pleasure. It’s all about getting the children reading, recording their ability and moving them on. We occasionally have storytime at the end of the day but not everyday – so some days some children don’t access the books – although they are available in the classroom (either a book to read, with puppets or on a CD) for them to use when they have free time.
I applied for a grant from out parent association and have been given some money to set this club up. My plan is to have a teepee outside with cushions and rugs that children can access as an extra-curricular activity, with adult supervision, where children can listen to stories for fun and be fully immersed in them for a period of time away from the constraints of the school.

EmmaWParticipantHow is everyone getting on with this task?
I have got lots of ‘bits’ that I want to incorporate into my writing but I am finding it hard to get started and make it into a cohesive piece of work!
I haven’t written or done analysis on a piece of work for quite a few years so it’s trying to get my brain in gear but with parents evening, children self isolating, lockdown and now reports and a Christmas play looming, my brain is going from one thing to another!!
EmmaWParticipantHi all
I found this task tricky as I don’t really have any current and relevant experience with 0-20mths.
I chose to focus on physical development, with communication and language (and mathematics) alongside. I have based my activity on working with children of 18 months of age.
