My second placement was going to be in Year 2 so my game focuses on learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

You use an egg box and label up the sections from 1 to 12; then using a bit of blu-tak, a counter (or even a bit of screwed up paper etc.) you get the children to shake the box with the lid shut. When the children open up the box, the counter should be in one of the numbered sections. They can then work out the times table for that number.

E.g. if they are practising their 5 times table and the counter lands on 7 in the box, they need to work out 5×7.

You can also make it harder for older children by using two counters, and getting the children to multiply the two numbers in the box together. This is good for when children need to practise all times tables up to 12 so might be helpful in Year 4 when they are preparing for the times tables assessment.

You can also make it easier by asking the children to add the numbers together, instead of multiplying, and so could be adapted for younger children.
