1.1 Establish and sustain a safe and stimulating environment where children feel confident and are able to learn.
1.2 Set goals that stretch and challenge children of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions.
1.3 Demonstrate and model the positive values, attitudes and behaviours expected of children.

    Ideas from my group today:
1.1: photos of the set up of your room
1.2: children’s next steps – from your key group and colleagues, with rationale
    1.3: examples of role modelling – adult/child; adult/adult; child/child

At my setting we are in the process of making a British values tree. This will show examples of how we use our golden rules and images to support children visually.

1.3 – we also have a British values tree or our family tree where we ask parents to print pictures of their families for all the children to visually see everyone’s different families and then in the middle we have our British values and use our golden rules book during circle times and when dealing with behaviour issues

Fabulous – if the children deep their own golden rules it will also demonstrate how you promote children’s ‘voice’!

In my previous setting, I made a “Golden Rules” board with pictures of the children showing kind hands, listening ears etc. Taking the pictures was a learning opportunity in itself, discussing with the children what they think is examples of these as well as them telling me what is not. Children could use this board as a reminder and I even had one child reminding other children to look at the golden rules board if they wasn’t being kind!

Visual golden rules are a brilliant way to remind children of appropriate behaviour!

Have any of you heard of the ‘ colour monster’ book?

we have a monster book area, with the pictures and I have recently made some colour monster spoons, which the children love to use to explain how they are feeling.

We have just used the colour monster yesterday, and the children loved it, I feel a bit sad, as today I hear there has been coloured “Monster poo” (mash potato) in the garden….

    Hello everyone!

Just some ideas from what I did last year for my evidence:

    – Making changes to the environment – having the children help you ‘audit’ the environment by asking them what they would like or want to change. From this my children wanted more music so I made a music wall in the garden using old pots and pans.
    – You could analysis your setting’s cohort tracking data and plan how you will develop the environment in order to meet their specific needs.
    – Hold a staff meeting where you discuss dispositions, abilities and backgrounds and minute this group discussion.

    Hi Amy

Thank you for your ideas – I particularly like the third idea” hold a staff meeting where you discuss dispositions, abilities and backgrounds” – great idea for 1.2!
